[教会] fish

If Jesus lives in today’s world, do you think he would open a face book account and send out friend requests everywhere? Remember once he had fed 5000 people with five loaves of bread and two fishes (Jn 6:13). If he can do that today, I’m sure you would wake up tomorrow with 5000 footages of bread eating men on you-tube, and on the third day, he would be flooded by interview requests and have millions of twitter followers.
Today’s world is truly a small pond, with all of us swimming within for food and fun, plus a few big tails carrying a school of followers, and numerous tiny fins trying to stay healthy and secure. Although we are all aware of the ‘coming dry days’ rumor and the dreadful place called ‘the frying pan,’ not all of us take it to heart.
Jesus certainly lives today. It is his desire to first enter into his own pond in a humble form (Phil 2:6-7), like a few ripples generated by a pebble drop in a pond. He swam for a while and then was taken away from the pond. He left behind a school of followers with hope of a heavenly pond, and promise of his glorious re-entry, like a big splash by a rock falling from the sky. To some fishes, this is a reality, to some, a myth, and to the rest, a mystery.
Jesus still lives today, maybe in you or in the tiny fish just swam by. If we are fishes, angels are fisherman. Till now they fish with rods. For daily catches some they send to a heavenly pond, and some for the frying pan (Mt 14:49-50). Time is indeed coming, when they will no longer fish with rods, but with nets (Mt 13:47). We don’t know our lot is by rod or by net, but we do know the hope by now (being posted all over the pond by the internet).
In early Christian history, persecuted believers use the sign of fish to communicate with each other. In Greek, if you take the initials of the phrase, “Jesus Christ God’s Son Savior”, it is the Greek word “Ichthys”, for fish. For us, size really doesn’t matter. It is the sign that matters.

John 6:13 So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves left by those who had eaten.
Philippians 2:6-7 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
Matthew 13:49-50 So it will be at the close of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 13:47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind.
